The Aare Gorge is situated between Meiringen and Innertkirchen in the valley of Hasli. The gorge is 1.4 kilometres long and up to 180 metres deep. For more than 100 years, the gorge is accessible to visitors by a system of safe paths and tunnels that run through it. The walk through the gorge is a very special way to experience nature.
One can reach the west entrance of the gorge just outside the village of Meiringen when coming from Interlaken or Brünig. Visitors will find ample parking and a restaurant. The east entrance is on the road from the Grimsel and Susten passes, 1 kilometre west of Innertkirchen. Ample parking is also available here.
Both entrances to the gorge are accessed by the
Meiringen-Innertkirchen train (see 'The Aare Gorge','The Path').
